Cytogenetic assays for biological dosimetry — the dicentric chromosome assay (DCA) and the cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay (CBMN) — traditionally require a high level of expertise to score chromosomal aberrations reliably.
This work shows that telomere and centromere PNA-FISH staining markedly improves dicentric and chromosomal-aberration detection, making evaluation more accessible. The approach was validated through participation in the RENEB 2021 inter-laboratory comparison exercise.
